Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a major public health concern in Nepal. This cross-sectional study assessed prevalence among adults aged 25-65 in the Kathmandu Valley. Methods: A multi-stage sampling technique was employed across 12 wards with 1,200 participants. Blood pressure was measured using standardized mercury sphygmomanometers following WHO STEPS protocol. Results: Among 1,200 participants, 34.2% had hypertension (BP ≥140/90 mmHg). Significant risk factors included age >45 (OR 2.8), BMI >25 (OR 1.9), current smoking (OR 1.6), and positive family history (OR 2.1). Conclusion: The high prevalence warrants community-based intervention programs and targeted screening in urban areas of Nepal.
